For your trade.

A good hair salon website shows in a few seconds who you are, what a haircut costs and how to book. Most clients visit your site on their phone, often right after seeing your name in Google or on Instagram. Booking then has to work within a minute.

In this article you will read what belongs on a hairdresser's website, how to handle online bookings, how to show your work and how to get found more easily in your own neighbourhood. It applies to a women's salon, a barbershop and a mobile hairdresser.

Does a hairdresser need their own website?

Many hairdressers get by with Instagram and a booking app. That works, until it doesn't. On social media the platform decides who sees your posts, and a new client has to hunt for your prices and address. On your own website, you are in control.

  • You are found more easily in Google when someone searches for hairdresser plus your town.
  • Your prices, opening hours and booking button are neatly together.
  • You show your style in a way that suits your salon.
  • You depend less on a single app or platform.

What should a hair salon website include?

A hairdresser's website doesn't need to be big. Make sure these parts are right:

  • A homepage with a strong photo of your salon or your work, your town and a booking button that always stays visible.
  • A complete price list, grouped by category: women, men, children, colour, treatments.
  • A page about the stylists in your salon, with photo and speciality. Clients often choose a regular person.
  • A portfolio with your own photos of cuts, colours and fades.
  • Opening hours, address, parking and how to get there by public transport.
  • Real client reviews.
  • Practical arrangements: what if you are late or need to cancel?

Online booking at the hair salon

For most clients, booking online has become the normal way. They plan in the evening on the sofa, not by phone during opening hours. For you, it means fewer calls while you are cutting.

There are two routes. You connect an existing salon booking system to your website, or you have a system built that fits exactly. For most salons an existing package is a fine start. Custom work becomes interesting if you have several locations, want your own rules for treatments or want to connect your schedule to other systems. Read more in online booking system.

When it comes to booking, pay attention to these points:

  • Let clients choose a treatment and a stylist.
  • Work with real durations. Colour and cut takes longer than a cut alone.
  • Send automatic reminders, so fewer people fail to turn up.
  • Make cancelling easy, so the slot becomes free again.
  • Make sure booking also works without creating an account.

Look and feel: does your website match your salon?

A client who opens your website should feel straight away what kind of salon you are. A rugged barbershop calls for a different design from a light women's salon or a hairdresser specialising in curly hair. Match colours, fonts and images to your interior and your logo, so the site and the salon feel like one whole.

Do keep the design calm. Too many effects, moving banners and pop-ups distract from what matters: seeing your work and making a booking. Go for large, sharp photos, short copy and clear buttons. Always test the site on your own phone, one-handed, the way your clients use it. If you can't make a booking within a minute, there is work to do.

Showing your work: photos and Instagram

With a hairdresser, people choose on style. Photos of your own work are therefore the most important part of your site. Stock photos of models work against you here: clients can tell straight away that they aren't real.

  • Take photos in good light, against a calm background.
  • Always ask the client's permission before putting a photo online. Recognisable people have rights to their own image.
  • Show a before-and-after for colour work and big changes.
  • Show your Instagram feed on your site, but also keep your best work in a portfolio of its own. A feed changes every day.

Getting your hair salon found in Google

Most people look for a hairdresser nearby. They type hairdresser plus town, or hairdresser near me. They then first see a map with salons. That is where you want to be at the top.

  • Keep a complete and active Google Business Profile, with photos, opening hours and a link to your booking page. Read how in optimising your Google Business Profile.
  • Mention your town and neighbourhood clearly on your website, in your homepage title and on your contact page.
  • Ask happy clients for a review, for example via a link in your confirmation email.
  • Use exactly the same name, address and phone number everywhere.

Common mistakes on hair salon websites

  • No prices, or only a 'from' price without explanation.
  • A booking button that only appears at the bottom of the page.
  • A site that loads slowly because of large photos.
  • Opening hours that don't match Google.
  • A site that looks different on a phone than intended.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website for a hairdresser cost?

It depends on what you need, such as online booking or several locations. At Violexa a custom website starts from €1,799 excl. VAT (€2,177 incl. VAT). In a free quickscan you get a price indication for your salon.

Is Instagram enough for a hair salon?

Instagram is great for showing your work, but it does little for being found in Google. Your own website with prices and a booking button fills that gap. The two work best together.

Which booking system is good for a hairdresser?

There are many packages made specifically for hairdressers. Choose one where clients can pick a treatment and stylist, that sends reminders and that is easy to add to your website. With several locations or special requirements, a custom solution can be more practical.
